There are five main areas to stay at in Puerto Escondido:

You won't find many tourists here, but it's the cheapest neighborhood in Puerto. I come here pretty often as I like to get my fruit and veg from local vendors and as I said earlier it is super extra cheap here! Don't forget to visit the local market- Mercado Benito Juarez. 

Oh, my beloved Rinconada. This was the first area I stayed in when I moved here. It's full of amazing cafes and restaurants. Also, you'll be surrounded by the best beaches in all of Puerto, like playa Carrizalillo, puerto Angelito, or playa Bacocho. 

if you want to get some groceries, it's usually cheaper in stores and stands around the market.

Rinconada is also great for digital nomads as power outages don't happen there as often as in La Punta for example. 

There are also two places which I think are totally overhyped:

The best sunset spot is Mirador Las Tortugas. The place is pretty small and crowded so I suggest arriving a little bit earlier to save the best spot! My fav is on the rocks on the right side. 

The quietest area which is great for digital nomads and backpackers traveling on a budget. It's close to Rinconada and most likely you'll have to walk there to grab some food. The best thing about Bacocho is that you'll be close to playa Bacocho and playa Coral (more about them in the best beaches section). 

My personal fav! It's full of amazing cafes, restaurants, and nightlife. You can also find cute souvenirs and clothes in stores located along the main street.

Your visit won't be complete without exploring Mercado Zicatela. There are many fruit and veg stores there, you can get some meat, bread, coffee, or eat breakfast/ lunch in one of the restaurants! Most of them overlook the ocean so it's very pretty ;)

it's nice to go and hang out there to get some coffee and food but most of the stores charge more because of the (touristy) location so choose wisely ;)

Welcome to La Punta, aka the most touristy area in Puerto Escondido.  For some it's the best neighborhood, others find it too crowded. Nevertheless, you need to spend at least one of your days here. La Punta is also great for shopping. You can find a lot of stores along the main street. Some of them are more affordable and some are more expensive. There's also many amazing cafes and restaurants here so come hungry ;)

La Punta is definitely a great spot for foodies. So here are my recommendations: 

And the list goes on. There are literally so many amazing spots in La Punta you won't be disappointed here. 

I'd like to recommend one beach club that's worth attention. They don't charge you for sun beds, you only have to spend $250 (Mexican pesos) and can relax sipping on your fav cocktail and watching the ocean.
