Puerto Escondido: Everything I discovered over 8 months of calling this place home
A quick word
Puerto Escondido is growing fast, and unfortunately, with the rise in tourism comes a rise in prices. Because of this, I’ve chosen to leave out most costs from this guide, except for transportation, which is useful to have a vague sense of. This guide is accurate as of December 2024.
On a similar note, as the town becomes more popular, new restaurants, bars, and accommodations are constantly opening. Most of the places I recommend here were around during my first long stint in Puerto beginning in October 2022 and were still thriving when I returned to stay in 2024. However, with the fast pace of development and gentrification, things can change quickly. So, before you head out, it's a good idea to double-check the opening hours of any place mentioned here — just to make sure it’s still around.
Neighbourhoods
Puerto Escondido, nestled on Mexico’s Pacific coast, has evolved from a quiet fishing village into a must-visit destination for those seeking stunning beaches, world-class surf, laid-back days, and lively nights. Each neighbourhood has its own distinct character, from vibrant, local areas to tranquil, hippy spots.
Here’s a guide to each area, helping you select your perfect location to stay in.
