What people say

"In this forest park you can observe the flora of the forest originating in Madeira – Laurissilva Forest – which appears along several paths, dominated by tree species. Of particular note are the specimens of tilde (Ocotea foetens), whitewood (Picconia excelsa), centuries-old heather (Erica platycodon subsp. Maderincola) and some specimens of leaf litter (Clethra arborea), mountain uveira (Vaccinium padifolium). Other species dominate the landscape, including Madeira cedars (Juniperus cedrus), excellent specimens of elegant cryptomeria (Cryptomeria japonica) and European beeches (Fagus sylvatica) with dense reddish foliage. The species of indigenous avifauna that we can see range from the finch (Fringila coelebs madeirensis), the endemic bis-bis (Regulus madeirensis) and the wood pigeon (Columba Trocaz), the lavender (Motacilla cinerea schmitzi), and the manta (Buteo buteo harteti). Given the unique conditions found in the Parque Florestal das Queimadas, both due to the great environmental and landscape quality, the great richness in biodiversity, and the possibility of walking trails (PR 9 - Levada do Caldeirão Verde; A path for everyone-Queimadas- Pico das Pedras), this is one of the places with the highest number of visitors (tourists and residents). Here, you will also find the Queimadas shelter house, a house that maintains the original characteristics of the old houses in Santana, featuring a beautiful thatched roof and which was converted into a visitable space called “Casa das Tradições Madeirans”."
