"San Pedro La Laguna is a vibrant and picturesque village located on the shores of Lake Atitlán in Guatemala. Of the villages around the lake, San Pedro is known for backpackers and partying. Known for its laid-back atmosphere and stunning natural surroundings, it has become a popular destination for travellers seeking a mix of adventure, relaxation, and cultural immersion. Visitors to San Pedro can enjoy activities such as hiking the nearby San Pedro Volcano, exploring local Mayan villages, and taking in the vibrant nightlife scene. The village also offers various accommodations, yoga retreats, and Spanish language schools, making it a captivating destination for those seeking a unique and enriching experience at Lake Atitlán. Pro tip: Take Spanish lessons here and bundle your lessons with a homestay, it's great value, plus you'll get to meet locals, learn a new language and eat local foods made especially for you by your host family. This was one of the best things I did in my whole trip through Central America. "
"San Pedro is known as the "backpacker town". While I'm sure there are also lots of locals and way to escape the backpacker scene, it's definitely a favorite with short term travelers. There are plenty of bars and a lot more nightlife than San Marcos has. They do still have some spiritual experiences and yoga as well. San Pedro has many more amenities, larger stores, and things such as groceries tend to cost less. It could be fun for a day trip or a couple nights depending on your vibe!"
"With a reputation as the backpacker town, this is where I'd recommend staying as a solo traveler if you want to meet people. There are a lot of hostels, bars, restaurants, and shops in this part of the lake. If you're interested in taking Spanish lessons (which are in abundance here), this is most likely where you'll take them."
