"Similar to Kinkaku-ji Temple, Ginkaku-ji is one of the most fascinating temples in the city. Built in
1482, it was the private residence of the Ashikaga Yoshimasa shogun, who was inspired by the more famous Kinkakuji, the golden pavilion, created
from his grandfather. Despite its name, this temple actually lacks silver! In fact, the shogun wanted to have this construction covered in silver sheets,
but due to his death the following year, the pavilion remained unfinished.
👣How to get there: reachable on foot from Philosopher's Path (200m, 2min). Bus stop: Ginkakuji Temple, line 32.
🎟️Ticket cost: full price 500 yen (3,10£) -reduced price 300 yen (1,80£)."

"This "Silver Pavilion" is set amidst beautiful gardens and also consists of several other temple buildings. Opens at 9AM in winter, and 8:30AM otherwise.
This is at the northern end of Philosopher's Path, so you can start your trek here before walking the path and finishing at Eikando Temple and/or Nanzenji Temple.
Admission: 500 yen"

"The gardens here are more impressive than at Kinkakuji / the golden pavilion. Unlike it’s sister temple, Ginkakuji / the silver pavilion is not gilded with silver."
