Komani Lake

"Komani, the lake created as an artificial aquifer in 1979 with the construction of the hydroelectric dam called at that time, “The light of the Party”. Koman Dam is one of the 10 highest dams of this type in Europe, with a height of 133 m and a length of 290 m, who has created a lake with a total volume of about 500 million m3 of water. Komani Lake after the creation of the dam has already covered for nearly four decades the millions of years trace that the river Drin, had carved to create its bed. The Drin River is formed by the union of its two branches, the White Drin which originates in the area of ​​Peja-Kosovo and the Black Drin from Lake Ohrid – Macedonia, in the area of ​​Kukes – Albania, continuing as the only one through the mountainous region of Has, Tropoja and Shkodra. Inland water transport with ferries and boats for passengers and goods is also developed. The lake is also used for fishing. In addition to the two ports on both sides of the lake, that of Fierza and Koman, the lake as a whole offers many other places worth visiting. Among them it is worth mentioning Shala River, Daica River, Berisha River, Gomina River, Shala Cave, Kaurri Cave, Peace Island, Blood Stream, as well as the villages Svinë, Berbull, Zhub, Berisha, Nanbli, Temal, Toplane, Brise, Sauce, Palc and others."
