Having visited Vienna twice, once in summer and once in autumn, and experiencing two distinct travel styles, I believe I can provide useful information for travelers. In contrast, my autumn trip was more relaxed, with day trips to Salzburg and Hallstatt, while ensuring that the person accompanying me got to experience some must-sees based on their personal preferences.
