"The MAMbo - Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna, inaugurated in 2007, is part of the Modern and Contemporary Art Area of the Civic Museums Sector of Bologna.
The museum, which is located in the former bread oven, traces the history of Italian art from the post-war period to the present and is constantly being renovated. Alongside the Permanent Collection, large monographic exhibitions dedicated to important Italian and international artists are organized. Furthermore, since 2012, the MAMbo has temporarily hosted the Morandi Museum.
In the section "Rivetamenti d'archivio. Le Settimane Internazionali della Performance e gli anni '60 e '70 a Bologna e in Emilia Romagna", recently set up within the exhibition itinerary, the Settimane Internazionali della Performance that were held between 1977 and 1982 are documented. Among the 49 artists who took part in the first edition in 1977 were, among others, Marina Abramović and Ulay. Important artists have been guests of the MAMbo, such as Marina Abramović and Ulay who in 1977 gave life to Imponderabilia. During this performance the two artists positioned themselves naked, one in front of the other, at the entrance of the museum, forcing visitors to rub against them in order to enter.
Among the works on display, Homage to the Hollywood Squares (featuring Bridget Riley) by Francesco Vezzoli (2008) stands out. In this large square tapestry the artist uses the textile medium, present in his work since the beginning, ironically reworking the references to the optical compositions of Bridget Riley and the weavings of Anni Albers."

"The gallery with the wonderful acronym - MAMbo.
The permanent collection features mainly conceptual and video-art from the sixties and seventies offering socio-political commentary on the world at this time. There are works by Marina Abramovich and Ulay, and Op Art by Bridget Riley, to name but a few. "
