"Top 3 things to see & do if you're visiting the city for a short period of time only: 1️⃣ The "Curiosity Garden" ("le jardin des curiosités") for the best panoramic views of the city away from the crowds! 📸 This hidden gem is 🆓 to visit and open all year long, it offers similar views to the famous Fourvière viewpoint but without the crowds and the location is mostly known of locals. 2️⃣ Take a stroll along the river Saône (there's a walking path) and take a minute to take in the scenery. ✨ Admire the old town's reflection on the water, the colourful brides and houses with the Fourvière Hill in the background and it's 2 most iconic Lyon landmarks: the cathedral ("Basilique de Fourvière") and the TV tower - known by the locals as Lyon's own Eiffel Tower. 3️⃣ Explore the famous park ("Parc de la Tête d'Or") and it's botanical garden. 🌿 Perfect for having a picnic with friends on a sunny day. The parc is 🆓 to visit and has some animals, a rose garden, a botanical garden, a lake and so much more! For more things to see & do in Lyon, take a look at our Ultimate Lyon guide ✨"
"Lyon, as aptly captured by Anthony Bourdain, is synonymous with gastronomic excellence and the epitome of impeccable French cuisine, personified by the legendary Paul Bocuse. This city is not just a culinary haven; it's a UNESCO world heritage treasure, constituting ten percent of its landscape. Lyon, a vibrant and livable city, boasts a rich tapestry of history, including its prominence in the silk trade and the grand Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière gracing its skyline. It's a university hub, fostering diversity and friendliness, while its strategic location makes Paris a mere two-hour train ride away, and Marseille just a stone's throw. From delectable Saucisson and Saint-Marcellin cheese to the fine spirits like Beaujolais and Chablis, Lyon beckons with a blend of cultural richness, architectural splendour, and, above all, a gastronomic adventure awaiting your exploration. Don't hesitate—immerse yourself in Lyon's culinary and cultural delights; you're sure to fall in love."

"If you hadn't already guess by my name, I'm French. I'm from Paris and let me tell you I LOVE LYON 10x more than Paris. This city has it all, the big city attractions and the small city vibes. People are super nice, they're probably gonna make an effort with you if your French is shit, and there is just this neighborly vibe all across town."

If you're looking for a city escape to live your European Summer dream, you've come to the right place! This is my 100% honest opinion of my 10 favorite European cities to visit in Summer. I see lots and lots of guides out there suggesting Paris (hello, has someone heard of the Olympic Games taking place?), Madrid (if you love 45° weather I guess) or Lisbon (great choice if you want to be 1 or 100 000 tourists). While these are all great destinations year-round, I don't think Summer is the right season to visit them. Personally, I'd go there in Spring or Autumn, not during the high season. Full disclosure, this is a no Greece, no Italy guide. You'll only find cities that I love, and I think are worth going to discover if you're looking for a short city-escape this Summer.
