Lyon
@RoamingGraciously
Lyon, as aptly captured by Anthony Bourdain, is synonymous with gastronomic excellence and the epitome of impeccable French cuisine, personified by the legendary Paul Bocuse. This city is not just a culinary haven; it's a UNESCO world heritage treasure, constituting ten percent of its landscape. Lyon, a vibrant and livable city, boasts a rich tapestry of history, including its prominence in the silk trade and the grand Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière gracing its skyline. It's a university hub, fostering diversity and friendliness, while its strategic location makes Paris a mere two-hour train ride away, and Marseille just a stone's throw. From delectable Saucisson and Saint-Marcellin cheese to the fine spirits like Beaujolais and Chablis, Lyon beckons with a blend of cultural richness, architectural splendour, and, above all, a gastronomic adventure awaiting your exploration. Don't hesitate—immerse yourself in Lyon's culinary and cultural delights; you're sure to fall in love.

The Gastronomic Capital of France, Beaujolais, Bouchons.

Lyon, a city brimming with gastronomic wonders, offers a diverse culinary tapestry. From high-end establishments to the convivial ambience of countless Bouchons, each serving traditional Lyonnaise fare like sausages, coq-au-vin, 'salade lyonnaise,' duck pâté, and roast pork. Delight your taste buds with unique dishes such as Cervelle de Canut, a fromage blanc with herbs translating to 'silk worker's brain,' and the ever-enjoyable Pâté en Croûte. Tablier de Sapeur, a delectable tripe dish, and iconic treats like Saint-Marcellin cheese and Rosette de Lyon sausage (infused with a generous amount of garlic) add to Lyon's culinary allure. During my week-long culinary expedition, dining out thrice daily with the guidance of locals and fellow gastronomes ensured I savoured every moment. Lyon's reputation as a culinary haven speaks for itself—don't hesitate; go and relish its welcoming ambience, easy navigation, and a blend of traditional and contemporary culinary gems. It remains one of my cherished European cities for its exceptional food scene. The massive university population also has a great positive effect on the future direction of food in Lyon. I am so excited to see what happens in the coming years.

Restaurant Le Kitchen
@RoamingGraciously
Only managed a coffee and some incredible pastries at Restaurant Le Kitchen but would put this at the top of my list for the next visit for a meal it was wonderful spoke to the chef-owner she was lovely and her menu read so well that I just wanted everything. Michelin agrees they have given her a Bib Gourmand. Great natural wine bar next door and a good Asian place as well -Definitely book reservations because this place gets busy.

Restaurant Léon de Lyon
@RoamingGraciously
Still, on my wish list, I really wanted a fancy meal but didn't book in time and my visit was over a long weekend. Research tells me that this is the one to make the effort to go to for its fine dining and incredible cocktails..

In the rare weeks when my suitcase is stashed, I'm busy planning the next trip to visit a producer I have longed to meet, cooking or scouring antique markets for treasures (mainly spoons). If you haven’t found me in one of these activities, it is because I am tapped into academics; either developing my thesis research on the social culture of coffee or absorbing other academic papers that pique my interest.
