"One of the oldest restaurants still standing serving up one of the best carbonara in town.
Checchino is an iconic Roman trattoria in the Testaccio district.
The menu is a fantastic read, quite large and providing a whole range of Roman classics, many of which not really seen anymore.
The wine list also includes some fantastic regional and Italian bottles.
Stand out dishes here were the 'padellotto alla macellara', a mix of offal, and the torta stracciatella.
They only take bookings via phone or, alternatively, you can file a request on their website."

"Carbonara 14 euro
Being near the old slaughterhouses, this was famous for their "quinto quarto" dishes, nose to tail. This is also a Piatto di Buon Ricordo restaurant and they do have other things on their menu besides "offal".
