What people say

"Blejski grad, also known as Bled Castle, is a medieval castle perched on a cliff overlooking Lake Bled in Slovenia. According to written sources, it is the oldest Slovenian castle and is currently one of the most visited tourist attractions in Slovenia. The castle's history dates back to 1004 when the German king Henry II conferred the estate of Bled on Bishop Albuin of Brixen. At that time, only a Romanesque tower protected by the wall stood at the place of the current castle. The first castle was built by the bishops around 1011 for defensive purposes. Over the centuries, the castle has been owned by a number of different families, including the Habsburgs. In the 16th century, the castle was extensively renovated and expanded into the Renaissance fortress that we see today. The castle is now a popular tourist destination, and visitors can explore the castle's museum, which exhibits artifacts from the castle's history. They can also climb the castle tower for stunning views of the lake and surrounding countryside."
"Bled Castle (Blejski grad) is a medieval castle that sits atop a cliff overlooking Lake Bled. Wow, indeed. The castle was built for bishops of the Holy Roman Empire in the early 11th century. That makes it the oldest castle in Slovenia. The Romanesque tower is its oldest part. Other towers and fortifications were added during the Middle Ages. Renaissance buildings, courtyards, and staircases later followed. So did a chapel and a drawbridge over the moat (no longer filled with water). The castle now has a museum, art exhibits, a formal restaurant, an outdoor cafe, a wine cellar, and souvenir shops. You can walk through the courtyards, into the towers, and along the walls. But the best part of the castle is simply the view. The lake's turquoise water and island with a church on it are never far from sight. Hours: November - March: 8 am - 6 pm April - October: 8 am - 8 pm Note: This is one of the most-popular spots in Bled. It gets quite crowded with tour groups. Go early or late to avoid most of the buses."
