"EN: Today's goal is to cross the border to Panama. Bocas del Toro is just 4 hours by bus from Puerto Viejo. If you don't know Bocas del Toro, it's an island paradise. You'll find white sandy beaches, snorkeling, starfish, and even bioluminescence. To get to Bocas del Toro, take the bus from the MEPE terminal to Sixaola (the border). From there, the easiest way is to take a shuttle for $10, which will take you directly to the pier. Then take a taxi boat from Almirante, Panama, for $6 to go directly to the center of Bocas del Toro, in Bocas del Toro Island. Crossing the border is very simple. You just need to show your return ticket and indicate which accommodation you are going to. "

"Bocas del Toro is a really beautiful island group. You arrice at the main island - island Colon. From there you can take cheap boat taxis (1$) to other islands, if your hostel is on an other island. We went to the starfish beach and made the Open Water Diver. It is also possible to make some other tours to go to other islands or go snorkling (you should not pay more than 20$ for a half day tour). At first we stayed 3 nights at the spanish by the sea hostel. It is really nice and breakfast (pancakes and fruits) is included but they don‘t have A/C so it is really hot. The last 2 nights we stayed in Cliff‘s Hostel, where you have to make the pancakes by your own for breakfast, but it is a little bit cheaper and has A/C. "

My guide to backpacking Central America is finally here! This guide is based on hundreds of hours of research, my own 4 month long trip, and some extras that I wasn't able to get to but would still highly recommend based on reviews from trusted friends! This guide serves as an essential list of the best attractions in each country and what not to miss! The route in the guide is laid out North to South, starting in Belize and ending in Panama, but it can also be used in reverse. The guide includes information for how to get between locations; however not in great detail as the schedules and prices change frequently and let's be honest, the busses are never on time in Central America! The best way to get between places depends on your timeline and budget of your trip: if you have months to explore, take the local "chicken busses" for a more affordable and immersive experience; if you only have weeks, take the more direct shuttles; and if you're tight on time, take the more direct and upscale coaches. Whichever option you choose, the locals are always willing to help with chicken busses, and shuttle busses and coaches are very easy to book throughout Central America at your hostel, any tour operator, or online. Where possible, I included accommodation recommendations for places that I personally stayed at and can vouch for, or know someone who did. In addition, there are links for booking hostels in each region! I hope this guide provides some help and inspiration to backpack Central America, it's one of my absolute favourite places on Earth!
