"This cathedral is an unmissable sight on your Naples itinerary. Built atop the temple of Apollo, it was consecrated in 1315; the Duomo was largely destroyed in a 1456 earthquake and subsequently rebuilt. In the 19th century, its dramatic neo-Gothic façade was added. Other highlights include the fresco in the chapel by Giovanni Lanfranco and the 4th-century mosaics in the baptistry. The Duomo is most associated with the chapel dedicated to San Gennaro, in honor of the city's patron saint. Three times a year, the Miracle of the Blood is performed in the cathedral when a vial of the blood of San Gennaro is brought out and liquefied from its dried state. Legend has it that disaster will befall Naples if the blood does not liquefy, as has sometimes happened. Explore the Duomo’s many artistic delights and allow the spiritual significance of the space to wash over you, whether you believe in miracles or not. Outside of the Duomo, you’ll see Jorit Agoch’s mural of a young San Gennaro. "

"The church is dedicated to San Gennaro, the patron saint of Naples. The Cathedral was built between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries in Gothic style. The bell tower of the church, over 80 meters high, is one of the symbols of the city. The chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro, inside the Duomo, houses the treasures of the saint, including the ampoule of the blood of San Gennaro. This blood liquefies 3 times a year- September 19th, the first Sunday in May, and the 16th of December. 🩸🩸🩸 Legend has it than when it doesn't liquefy, Naples will have a bad year. In the Cathedral there is also the Archbishop's Chair, an imposing white marble structure decorated with bas-reliefs. "
