5 days in Napoli and its surroundings

After returning to the train station, if you walk for a few minutes, you will get to the entrance in the Pompeii Archeological Park. The entrance is marked on the map as 🏛️Scavi di Pompei. The whole park is amazing and will impress you for sure. You are able to spend as much time as you wish here, but I also selected a few of the most important and interesting sites in the park that you should not miss. At the entrance you will also get a map of the archeological site.

The station for the Circumvesuviana route is separate from the Garibaldi train station. You need to get down the stairs in the Garibaldi Galleries and you can follow the indicatives to the station.

❗A must do is taking a boat tour of the island. Capri is absolutely amazing and seeing it from a boat is breathtaking. This is the best way to see the whole landscape of the island. The tour I took was 21 euros and I bought it from the port.

The first day will be spent in Napoli to get a taste of the city and to discover its particular beauty.

You probably heard this before, but I need to tell you as well, that you  should be prepared to be surprised by the not so clean streets of Napoli, but if you leave this aside the city is superb and this should not be a motive to make you feel unpleasant.

This day focuses on the attractions in the Old City Center (Centro Storico).

Mount Vesuvius is an active volcano and visiting it will be an amazing experience.

To get to it you need to buy tickets for the National Park, as this is a protected area, and for a bus that will get you to the entrance in the park. There are multiple options to get there:

👣One option is to get a ticket from the ticket offices that are placed right in the train station and they will ensure the transport and the entrance to the park. The price is around 35 euros. This is the option I chose and this is the price I paid for a ticket.

👣Another option would be to take the EAV public bus, but in this case you need to make sure to buy beforehand the ticket for the entrance to the park, as these might not be available when arriving there. When I arrived at the entrance to the park, there were announcements that the tickets were sold out. With this option the bus ticket is 3.10 euros and the trip takes around 55 minutes. This would be a cheaper solution.

👣You could also try to buy the package with transport and ticket online, but there is not an official site of the Vesuvius.

The best and easiest way to get to Capri is by ferry. You need to get to the Port of Napoli at the Beverello terminal. There are multiple ferry companies that have booths and you can check their offers and buy the tickets directly from the port. The route is active from May to October. 

If you plan to make this trip in one of the busiest months, like July or August, you should try to plan in advance and maybe buy the tickets online to make sure that you do not miss this great trip.

You can buy the tickets before the ferry departs, but you should get to the port earlier as queues might occur. Or you could buy the tickets one or two days in advance.

The ferry companies that operate this route are SNAV and NLG. You could check a site like Ferryhopper to see all the possible routes and you could buy from there or check the company site directly.

The arrival point will be the Port of Capri, also known as Marina Grande.

To get back to Napoli you can take the train, more exactly the Circumvesuviana route, which is a scenic route that goes around Vesuvius from Napoli to Sorrento and return.

This is a more affordable option, as the tickets are about 4 euros. You can also choose to take an express train that costs more, but arrives faster.

The tickets can be bought from the station entrance and they are not for a particular train, so if you miss the first one, you can hop into the next train.

To get back to Napoli, you have to go back to the train station where you arrived in the morning. You can get return tickets from the station. Keep in mind that this route is very crowded and this being an intermediary station, you might need to wait for the second or the third train depending on how full they arrive.

In Napoli, the station where you should get down is Napoli Garibaldi.

I want to recommend you a place for spending the time in Napoli. It is Bed & Breakfast Ninarella, which seems to be a small family business that is very well organized. The rooms are clean, nice and the position of the B&B is very good, very close to the port.
