Gothic and Baroque Architecture/ Foodie Tour -Naples,Italy

Naples has so much to offer, especially if you love art and architecture...and food! 🕍🍝 When I arrived in Italy 30 years ago, some of my favorite things to do was grab my camera, stroll through Naples taking pictures, then grabbing something to eat. 📷🍕 This guide is designed for those of us who want to absorb in the beauty of Gothic and Baroque architecture and pair it with a fun place for a snack, breakfast, lunch or dinner. A Gothic Architecture Foodie Tour!! The Gothic period in Naples lasted from the 13th to the 15th century, and was followed by the Renaissance period. There are many churches tucked in side streets or in the corner of small piazzas are some perfect examples of Gothic architecture. 🕍 What about food?😜 Besides pizza, I've listed a few bars/cafes and restaurants that are pretty cool. Let's take a look!

Churches and Castles

Tips:  When visiting churches, remember a few key things.   Be aware of the church service hours usually listed on their website or on the door.  Many churches will not let you 'tour' if there is a service going on.  Make sure your cell phones are turned off or at least in the silent mode. 📵 Many places will let you use a camera to take pictures, not most will not let you use flash. 📷 And... act act and dress appropriately. Enough said. 🙏

Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral
@andiamotrips
The church is dedicated to San Gennaro, the patron saint of Naples. The Cathedral was built between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries in Gothic style. The bell tower of the church, over 80 meters high, is one of the symbols of the city. The chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro, inside the Duomo, houses the treasures of the saint, including the ampoule of the blood of San Gennaro. This blood liquefies 3 times a year- September 19th, the first Sunday in May, and the 16th of December. 🩸🩸🩸 Legend has it than when it doesn't liquefy, Naples will have a bad year. In the Cathedral there is also the Archbishop's Chair, an imposing white marble structure decorated with bas-reliefs.

Santa Chiara Complex
@andiamotrips
The Gothic church of Santa Chiara in Naples was built in the thirteenth century and has a façade decorated with majolica mosaics. The church of Santa Chiara was dedicated to the homonymous saint, co-founder of the order of the Poor Clares together with St. Francis of Assisi. Inside the church you can admire important works of art, including the tomb of Robert of Anjou and the cloister decorated with frescoes of the eighteenth century. During the Second World War the church suffered serious damage due to bombing, but was later rebuilt. The church also houses the Museo dell'Opera di Santa Chiara, where works of art and artifacts from the Santa Chiara complex are exhibited.
