🌎 The Ultimate Guide to Porto
Porto was originally founded by the Romans in 4th century B.C.E. and and was originally called Portus Cale. In fact, it was the Romans who originally started to plant vines and creating vineyards in the Douro Valley.
Through the ages, Porto played an important role in Portugal's Age of Discoveries.
The port wine produced and shipped from the area was also an important piece of Portugal's long time friendship with England.
Although the city went through economic ups and downs, its currently focused on preserving its beautiful architecture and cultural identity and promoting tourism.
Porto is in the northern part of Portugal and tends to get a little colder and rainier than Lisbon. I would recommend to visit it April to October. However it can easily be explored year, round.
I would recommend at least two days in the city to see it properly. ESPECIALLY if you're thinking about visiting the Douro Valley!
