"I haven't talked about Otak and Arem yet, but now is the time as I loved them in Sunda Kelapa. Otak-otak is a grilled fish cake made of ground fish meat mixed with tapioca starch and spices, wrapped in banana leaves before being grilled over charcoal. It's delicious and reminds me of Mexican tamales in some way. Arem-arem is an Indonesian-Javanese compressed rice cake in the form of a cylinder, wrapped inside a banana leaf and filled with diced vegetables, tempeh or oncom. Sometimes, it's also filled with minced meat or abon (beef floss) and eaten as a snack. They also have a yellow curry soup that is delicious, but the name has slipped my memory. You'll have to find that out on your own."
