La Punta Zicatela

"La Punta marks the southern end of Playa Zicatela, stretching 3.5 kilometres along Puerto Escondido's coastline. Here, the waves are generally calmer, making it a popular spot for both beginner and advanced surfers. Note that locals and students being taught by locals take priority on the waves — it's important to follow the surf etiquette (advice from a non-surfer with many surfer friends). Also note that surf conditions can vary depending on the day and season, so it's advisable to check local surf reports via Surfline before heading out. I must add that I've encountered a shocking number of tourists and travellers who think La Punta (primarily the main road that cuts down from the highway to the beach) is the centre of Puerto — something that couldn't be further from the truth. La Punta is a beautiful, vibrant area, but it has undergone gentrification incredibly rapidly. This transformation has introduced upscale accommodations and dining options, which, while enhancing amenities, have also altered the area's traditional charm. I urge all visitors to explore the rest of what this incredible dynamic town has to offer in its other neighbourhoods. Despite these changes, La Punta remains a vibrant community hub. At dusk, locals and travellers often gather outside popular spots like Punta Vida to watch the sunset, enjoy a drink, or participate in beach volleyball games. The area boasts unbelievable accommodations, restaurants, cafes, bars, and boutiques."
