"One of Zadar’s most captivating features is how Roman ruins seemingly emerge throughout the city streets. This is particularly striking at the site of the ancient Forum, constructed between the 1st century BC and the 3rd century AD. Historically, this area was the hub of civic and religious activities, with St. Donatus’ Church now dominating one side of the forum.
Amid the ruins of temples and colonnades, an intact Roman column stands out. During the Middle Ages, this column was repurposed as a "shame post" where wrongdoers were publicly humiliated. Nearby, additional Roman remnants include altars adorned with reliefs of mythological figures such as Jupiter Ammon and Medusa. The altars feature hollows believed to have been used for blood sacrifices, suggesting that this site may have been dedicated to Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva as early as the 1st century BC."
