"A popular town close to the Arenal Volcano. With natural hot springs, white water rafting and much more, you'll always have something to do. 🌋 This place is best suited to people who want a real adventure. My favourite experience here was the white water rafting and this was worth spending a bit more of our budget on. There are also cheaper alternatives like visiting La Fortuna Waterfall and gardens, going to the local river and using the rope swing, or going to the hot springs. If you want to save a few pennies, there are free hot springs a 15 minute drive from the main square. Alternatively, there are companies who have private springs and spas available at varying prices. 🧖♀️
We used local companies to arrange our bookings when we got there and found these were better deals than what we could find online and there is room to negotiate. However, if you are wanting to hike the volcano/do a tour around, it may be best to book in advance so it does not get booked up. "

"We slept in the Argdivan Hostel, which is really cheap (12$ with breakfast in a dorm) and there is really much Information about the tours and aktivities around La Fortuna.
We went to El Salto, a nice river to jump in with a rope. There were quite a lot of people but it is really nice on a hot day and it is free.
In the evening we drove to the hot springs in El Choyin with two other people and we enjoyed the hot water and the light of candles. The entrance is also free you just need a ride, a candle and something to drink.
On the next day we drove (with uber) to the Volcan Arenal Area. It is not possible to hike up to the Volcan, but you can hike to a really beautiful viewpoint and the way up is through the dschungel. But its really expansive for 17$.
We didn‘t go to La Fortuna waterfall because the entrance is 18$ and we don‘t think this is worth it. "
