San José
@evelynkronberger
We arrived in San Jose and slept in the Hostel - Costa Rica Backpackers. A nice and clean Hostel were you can go by foot in the city. We spend 3 nights there, but 1-2 nights is also enough. San Jose doesnt have so many sights, so a view hours in the city are enough. In the hostel you can relax at the pool an plan your further trip, but there is a train nearby so it is really loud also in the night. You also can make a daytrips to national parks, volcanoes or waterfalls.

Public Transport from San Jose to La Fortuna:

You have to take the Bus at 8:40 at Terminal 7-10, because this is the only bus each day to La Fortuna. We drove about 3 1/2 hours. It costs about 7$. There are other possibilitys but than you have to chance the bus and it takes longer.

La Fortuna
@evelynkronberger
We slept in the Argdivan Hostel, which is really cheap (12$ with breakfast in a dorm) and there is really much Information about the tours and aktivities around La Fortuna. We went to El Salto, a nice river to jump in with a rope. There were quite a lot of people but it is really nice on a hot day and it is free. In the evening we drove to the hot springs in El Choyin with two other people and we enjoyed the hot water and the light of candles. The entrance is also free you just need a ride, a candle and something to drink. On the next day we drove (with uber) to the Volcan Arenal Area. It is not possible to hike up to the Volcan, but you can hike to a really beautiful viewpoint and the way up is through the dschungel. But its really expansive for 17$. We didn‘t go to La Fortuna waterfall because the entrance is 18$ and we don‘t think this is worth it.

We took the private shuttle for 30$ from La Fortuna to Monteverde. It is possible with the bus but you have to go around the lake with a lot of curvy roads and the shuttle inclouds a boat trip over the lake.

Monte Verde
@evelynkronberger
In Monteverde you can really do everthing but than it will be really expansive. You can walk over suspension bridges (~40$), walk through the dschungel (~18-40$), night walk through the dschungel (~25$), zip line (~70$), bungee jumping (~90$) and a lot more. We decide just to go for a night walk in the dschungel. You are walking ~2h around with a guide and in a small gruppe (max. 8) and search for animals. We saw frogs, snake, tarantula, birds, Opossum, kinkadu and a tucan. Some are so close that you can male good pictures some are quite far away and difficult to see. It was a really nice tour, we can recommand it! We stayed in ‚Cattleya Monteverde‘ and payed 7,5$ per person per night.
