"**Vladimir Nazor Park** is indeed one of Zadar’s significant green spaces, but it is not the city's oldest park. That honor belongs to the park named after **Queen Jelena Madijevka** (also known as Queen Jelena Medici). Located atop the Grimaldi bastion near Five Wells Square, this historic park was established in 1829 by Austrian commander Baron Franz Ludwig von Welden. Von Welden, a dedicated botanist and admirer of Dalmatian flora, created the park as the first public garden in Dalmatia. The decision to build a garden on a former military site was unconventional, but it has left a lasting legacy. The park remains a cherished part of Zadar’s landscape, blending historical significance with natural beauty."
