"Very welcoming restaurant just outside of Porta Elisa in Lucca. Hightened traditional Lucchese menu with tasty and well presented dishes. Excellent service: fast and professional. Very well stocked wine list with a prevalence of local wineries.
All the food is excellent, some favorites are:
- chicken liver pâté,
- necci (chestnut crepes stuffed with ricotta),
- tordelli al sugo.
"Tordelli alla lucchese" are a very rich and tasty traditional first course. They are a fresh egg pasta filled with a mixture of ground meats, mortadella, grated cheese and aromatic herbs.
Like all traditional recipes, the filling can vary in many different ways but a constant of the tordello, is supposed to be its classic crescent moon shape and larger size. This pasta is generally searved with a meat sauce ("sugo" or "ragù"), or with melted butter, sage and Parmesan cheese ("burro e salvia")."
