"The Old Town Bridge Tower (Staroměstská mostecká věž) is a magnificent Gothic structure that guards the entrance to Prague's Old Town from Charles Bridge. Construction began in 1357 on the orders of Emperor Charles IV, and the tower was completed in 1380. Designed as a triumphal arch, it was intended for Bohemian kings to pass through during their coronation processions from the Old Town to Prague Castle. In addition to its ceremonial role, the tower was an important part of Prague’s fortifications, defending the Old Town from northern invaders. Despite suffering damage during a Swedish attack in 1648, many sculptures by the renowned architect Peter Parler, who also worked on St. Vitus Cathedral, have survived. Visitors can climb the tower’s 138 steps for stunning views over Charles Bridge, the Vltava River, and Prague’s iconic landmarks. Directly across the river stands the Lesser Town Bridge Tower, mirroring its architectural grandeur."

"Walking on the Charles Bridge is quit the experience, with musicians and entertainment along the way. I recommend spending more time on the western side which tends to be less busy and enjoy the restaurants on that side. Be aware of the pickpockets and scammers all around in all forms! I suggest locking backpacks and purses with valuables. "
