"The Vršič Pass is the highest mountain road in Slovenia. The road has an elevation of more than 5,200 feet in the Julian Alps. It runs between Kranjska Gora (after Lake Jasna) in the north and Trenta in the south with 50 switchbacks in between. The road (previously a logging trail) was constructed, largely by Russian prisoners of war, during World War I. The Russian Chapel, dedicated to those who died building it, still stands on the side of the road.
There are now mountain lodges and great hikes along the Vršič Pass. Drive carefully, slowly, and be sure to use the many pull-offs to take photos along the way.
Note: The Vršič Pass is closed during the winter due to heavy snowfall."

" Vršič Pass holds the title of the highest mountain pass in the Eastern Julian Alps, reaching an elevation of 1,611 meters (5,286 feet). This remarkable feat of engineering makes it a popular route for cyclists and motorcyclists alike.
As you ascend the winding roads towards the pass, prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking panoramas that unfold before you. Jagged peaks, lush valleys, and verdant forests paint a picture of alpine splendor that will leave you awestruck."
