"The Vršič Pass is the highest mountain road in Slovenia. The road has an elevation of more than 5,200 feet in the Julian Alps. It runs between Kranjska Gora (after Lake Jasna) in the north and Trenta in the south with 50 switchbacks in between. The road (previously a logging trail) was constructed, largely by Russian prisoners of war, during World War I. The Russian Chapel, dedicated to those who died building it, still stands on the side of the road. There are now mountain lodges and great hikes along the Vršič Pass. Drive carefully, slowly, and be sure to use the many pull-offs to take photos along the way. Note: The Vršič Pass is closed during the winter due to heavy snowfall."

Jagged peaks, lush valleys, and verdant forests paint a picture of alpine splendor that will leave you awestruck."
