"The General Archive of the Indies, formerly the Merchants' Exchange, was built in 1572. It was designed by Juan de Herrera and built by Alonso de Vandelviva and Juan de Minjares. The second floor and the Oath Cross were added in the 17th century. A century later, when Charles III chose this building as the headquarters of the General Archive of the Indies, other works were carried out, such as the redecoration of the main staircase. It is a square building with a large central courtyard. Valuable documents are preserved inside, which allow us to recreate the history of Spain's relationship with the overseas colonies in America."

"The General Archive of the Indies, Archivo General de Indias in Spanish, is one of the five central Spanish state archives, and in particular the one containing documents relating to the Spanish Empire in the Americas and the Philippines.Beautiful interior courtyard with black and white checkerboard floors. Nice to visit if you have time to spare. From the windows there is also a nice view of the Cathedral."

"It is a large building just next to the Cathedral. It was created in 1785 as an archive for all the documents and materials about the history of the Spanish Empire. Although it is not possible to see any of the document (a special request with a valid reason has to be presented in advance), it is possible to enter for free and admire the beautiful building."
