Places I have stayed for FREE in my Campervan

Abi
Apps like Park4night are great for finding parking spots for a night in a campervan, however I have found it hard when searching for a spot which one to trust. Here are a few spots I have stayed for 1 night, for free, where I have had no issues. As well as a review of the spot and what facilities are available. I will keep this updated with all the new places I stay in the van.

This pub has a designated campervan section at the back of the car park. We stayed for 1 night and only had to pay for something in pub to be able to stay there. They ask if you can spend about £20 so we had a few rounds of drinks. Really friendly staff and the owner had a campervan of his own so we had a lovely chat about where he had been to. There are also lots of animals in the fields next to the pub and chickens that come looking for snacks in the morning. You can use the facilities in the pub however be aware you can’t get in when the pub is closed.

The car park is in the most beautiful valley with a stream running past. We stayed for 1 night with no issues and had the most beautiful sunset. The car park is reasonably big and has no signs saying no parking overnight. The only sign was for no camping. There are no facilities here and the road is quite tight and bumpy to the car park

Mary Tavy
@takemetravelling
We stayed on the lay-by a little out of Mary Tavy unfortunately it wouldn’t let me tag the exact location on the map but below if how to find it. If you head down Brentor Road and then Station Road towards Brentor. At the corner where there is a fork in the road, take the road on the right and then the lay by is in front of you. The lay-by is sheltered all round by a gorse bush but it is right next to the road. The lay-by is quite large so you don’t open your door into the road. There are no facilities here but the road is reasonably smooth and easy. It has a beautiful view of the church on the top of the hill and we had a beautiful sunset just behind it.

King Arthurs Great Halls
@takemetravelling
Tintagel has many car parks in the centre and outskirts of the town. The car park we stayed at was called. Which allows overnight parking you just pay a little extra for an overnight ticket. This was a great spot right in the centre of the town with a pub at the entrance to the car park. There is also a public toilet a short walk down the road which is usually open all the time.

Croyde Road
@takemetravelling
I think you are only allowed to stay overnight in off seasons but this was an excellent spot with beautiful views over saunton sands There are 4 lay-bys along croyde road between croyde and saunton sands. Some are quite small so weren’t wide enough for our van and you need to get there reasonably early to get a good spot. Be aware it’s also quite close to the road There aren’t any facilities but the saunton sands car park has toilets and a cafe

Clydach Ironworks

The map didnt allow me at the exact spot but if you go up the hill just before the corner there is a little car park for the footpath that goes past the old quarry. There is a great pub nearby called the Cambrian inn which has beautiful views over sugarloaf mountain. There are no facilities at the spot but there is a great quarry just next to it

Kirtlington Quarry
@takemetravelling
This was a great little spot on a layby on a quiet road. Nearby there is Kirtlington Quarry, a wood and a canal all within a short walking distance. There arent any facilities at the spot but is still a great spot for everything you can do just near it.

Oakamoor Cricket Ground
@takemetravelling
Please do not stay on the cricket ground car park, this was just where I could drop a point. The parking for overnight is in the car park in the wood with a disused railway just next to it. There are plenty of spaces and a very quiet spot out of the way. Please be aware there is a bridge with a 3t weight limit on however one of the sides of the bridge does not have the sign on so it is only when you are leaving that you know where the bridge is. There arent any facilities but there is a pub in the village just a short distance away. This is also an excellent spot for Alton Towers because it took us just 7 minutes to get there

The Roaches
@takemetravelling
There is plenty of parking for staying overnight in the roach road laybys. This is a quiet road at night but can get reasonably busy in the morning with people starting the roaches walk early. This has a beautiful view over the roaches and scenery below, you can also get an excellent sunset. There aren't any facilities at the spot however there is a cafe nearby.
