+ How To Get Around
Tokyo offers a wide variety of ways to get around, both within the city and beyond. In addition to being very walkable, the city has an excellent transit system. Trains, subways, and buses are among the most popular and efficient options for getting around, making it easy to explore Tokyo and its surrounding areas. best way.
🚇 SUBWAYS & TRAIN OPTIONS
+ Tokyo Metro: Extensive subway network covering major areas.
+ JR Yamanote Line: A circular train line connecting major neighborhoods like Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Tokyo Station.
+ Shinkansen (Bullet Trains): Not for intra-city travel but great for day trips to nearby cities like Yokohama or beyond.
The JR Pass offers unlimited travel on Japan Railways trains, including Shinkansen bullet trains, making it a cost-effective and flexible option for tourists exploring multiple cities across Japan. It's ideal for long-distance travel, saving you money while offering convenience and freedom. If you are considering on a JR Pass, it must be ordered online prior to your visit.
🚕 TAXIS
These are of course an option, but are known to be on the more pricier side. Uber is available but not as popular, I recommend downloading JapanTaxi for booking taxis.

+ Tips When Visiting
🚇 CHECK THE TIME FOR THE LAST TRAINS
While the train is the best way to get around Japan, you'd be surprised that the train does not run all night. So unless, you plan on staying out until sunrise, double checking it is a good idea. Usually it runs until 11 pm/midnight, depending on the day of the week.
💩 KEEP YOUR TRASH
A FYI, it is common not to find a trashcan outdoors, so be prepared to carry your trash around with you until you head back home or stop by a store or restaurant.
💰CARRY CASH WITH YOU
It's always smart to carry some cash, as many places only accept it. Also, a heads-up: most ATMs in town have a minimum withdrawal of $50-$70, so plan accordingly when you need to withdraw money.
👘 OPT FOR A SUICA OR PASMO CARD
If you're going to be in Tokyo for a bit, highly recommend either cards. The two options for Tokyo are the Suica and the Pasmo cards. They’re a great way to pay for train fares and can also be used in many shops and stores. You can also easily add these to your wallet for easy access.
🙏 BE RESPECTFUL AND POLITE
Learn some of the basic etiquette in Japan. Some to remember are:+ No walking and eating (typically people tend to stand around the vendor when eating).+ No drinking or eating on the trains.+ If you smoke, look for designated areas to do it.+ On escalators, stand on the left side.
