Bari, the white city
Introduction
Bari is a small city located in southern Italy and is often referred to as the white city due to its characteristic of having buildings and palaces made of white marble. The city faces the sea, and therefore, when the sun is high in the sky, the light reflects on these marvelous buildings, creating a luminous effect on the city itself.
Bari is also known for its "Bari Vecchia" which can be reached with a 15-minute walk from the central station. It's a cluster of houses of different sizes and is a hub for families that have been there for generations, preserving the secrets of Bari's cuisine. You can find elderly ladies on the city streets hand-making orecchiette pasta or kneading the dough for focaccia.
My advice is this: if you plan to visit Bari, set aside at least half a day to explore it. You won't regret it.
Let's start with food
This ones are the most famous bakery in all Bari. They're located in Bari Vecchia and if you have at least 5€ you can take two big slices of a delicious focaccia barese.
Pay attention because they're always full of tourists so make sure to be there before the opening. Bakery Santa Rita isn't open on Sundays
Otherwise, if you're running late and you have time just for a coffee I recommended this place here
What to do in Bari
Since when is a small city you can decide to stay for some days chilling in Bari or you can take the train to visit other nearest cities, like: Ostuni, Monopoli, Cisternino (my favourite one) or Polignano.
My advice for a better visit to these cities is to rent a car as it is easier to move and, if you are in a group of friends, it is cheaper than taking the train.
