Arriving in Korea

Incheon International Airport

Now it's time to get into the city, Seoul! There are buses, taxis, and of course the airport railroad AREX available to bring you into the center of the city. It takes about 1 hour to reach Seoul Station from the airport with the all-stop train and about 45min if you choose the premium express train. The train is the best option if your accommodation is near Seoul Station or Hongdae. If you are going to areas like  DDP or Jamsil, or have a lot of luggage, the airport bus might be a better option for you. You can find all timetable and route info on the Incheon Airport website, click To & From --> Public Transport --> Search Buses.

Getting Around

I'd strongly recommend you download either Naver Maps or Kakao Maps as they are much more accurate than Google in Korea.

Subway

Seoul's subway system is extensive and super convenient, just make sure to check the direction! If you are staying in Seoul for several days make sure to look into the Climate Card pass for tourists. It's currently available for 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7 days and offers unlimited travel on the subway within Seoul. Check the service range carefully as some subway lines go outside of Seoul, like for example Suwon. If you don't plan to use the subway in Seoul that much or have plans to travel outside of Seoul get a T-Money card. You can top it up as needed and it can also be used in other cities in Korea.

Trains

There are two high-speed train services available, KTX and SRT. If you are in Seoul, the main station for taking the KTX is Seoul Station, whereas the SRT departs from Suseo, located in the south of Gangnam. Apart from the KTX and SRT there are much cheaper (and slower) local trains available as well. You can buy tickets at the station or use the offical Korail app.

Intercity Buses

Buses come in three different standards, Regular (일반), Superior (우등), and Premium (프리미엄). Prices vary accordingly. In Seoul there are three main bus terminals, the Express Bus Terminal, Nambu Terminal, and the Dong Seoul Terminal.

Flights

If you are thinking of catching a domestic flight to Jeju or maybe Busan you will most likely departing from Gimpo Airport, which is closer to the city of Seoul than Incheon International Airport.

Taxis

Taxis are relatively affordable and a good option to travel short distances. I'd recommend you download a taxi app called Kakao T.

When to go

Where to stay

Many travelers choose to stay in Hongdae when they first arrive. It's close to the airport and has lots of entertainment and shopping to offer. If you're main focus is exploring cultural sights and travel around the city Myeongdong and Insadong might be a better option for you! Here are some accomodations you might wanna consider.
