After the Ghibli Park opened on November 1, 2022, featuring attractions based on several films produced by Studio Ghibli, Nagoya became a city worth visiting, not just a mere destination to pass through. (Though Satsuki and Mei's House was originally built for the 2005 Aichi Expo and has always been there to visit over the years.)

Here are 10 of the best things to do when visiting this never-boring city:

1. Nagoya Castle

No visit to Nagoya is complete without exploring Nagoya Castle, one of Japan's most iconic landmarks. The castle is renowned for its stunning golden shachihoko—mythical tiger-dolphin creatures—adorning the roof. The castle grounds are particularly breathtaking during cherry blossom season, making it a picturesque spot for a leisurely stroll.

10. Eating Ramen and Red beans at SUGAKIYA

Aichi Prefecture loves Sugakiya!

Sugakiya is a ramen chain is originated in Nagoya. The company started as a sweet shop in 1946 and began selling ramen later. In the 1960s, Sugakiya began manufacturing instant ramen and eventually opened its own chain restaurants.

Sugakiya is famous for its shōyu (soy sauce) ramen, which has a mild, slightly sweet broth that distinguishes it from other regional styles. The noodles are typically thin and soft, making it a very satisfying bowl of ramen. You’ll find Sugakiya ramen in various locations across Nagoya, from mall food courts to standalone restaurants. And you will eat with a spork in a retro quirky atmosphere.
