Are you heading to New York? There is so much to see and do and it can be really overwhelming!
I have created this itinerary for one day in the Financial District. You can open this itinerary in the Thatch app and follow along from one location to the next. This will save you from backtracking or missing something.
If you enjoy this itinerary, keep a look out for my longer NYC itineraries coming soon.
The 9/11 Memorial Pools and Museum are easy to access on the Subway. The best option is to put the destination into your phone maps and find directions from your hotel.
The 9/11 Memorial Pools are a good spot to start your day in the Financial District. It's a nice spot to reflect on what happened on 9/11 and think about those who lost their lives.
Be prepared to cry - it is pretty difficult to see and hear some of the stories. It's definitely worth a visit and you can easily spend a few hours here.
The Occulus Centre is designed to represent the strength and resilience of NYC after 9/11. The design represents a dove leaving a child's hands. It is a transport, retail and dining hub in the Financial District. It is worth at least popping in to admire the architecture. You could also stop here for lunch.

Now or later???
I would highly recommend a visit to One World Observatory. This fits geographically at this point of the day, but I would suggest that you consider visiting at sunset instead. It will be easy to return to the observatory at the end of the day if you choose to do this at sunset.
Founded in 1766, St Paul's Chapel had a rich history in New York City. Following 9/11, St Paul's Chapel had not suffered much damage and became a beacon of hope and refuge for many

From St. Paul's Chapel, walk south on Broadway to Trinity Church. It is about 450m.
Established in 1697, Trinity Church is an integral part of New York City. For Hamilton fans, the churchyard is the final resting place of Alexander Hamilton.

From Trinity Church, cross the road and walk down Wall Street for the next few stops on your itinerary.
Built in 1842, the original Federal Hall was New York City's city hall. It was the place where George Washington was sworn in as president. The original building was demolished in 1812. The current memorial was built in 1862. It is a memorial that commemorates the historic events that occurred at the previous structure.
Check out the largest stock exchange in the world! Unfortunately you can’t go in to see the trading floor, but the building is great. There’s also a huge Christmas tree here during the festive season.
This circular sandstone fort was built in the early 1800’s and was the first immigration station. It’s an interesting place to have a look around & learn some of the history.
This pedestrian-only cobblestone street was the first paved street in NYC. There are some great restaurants on Stine Street, with outdoor dining during the Warner months.
Known as the oldest and most historic pub in NYC, this is a great spot to enjoy a cosy dinner. It is highly recommended that you make a booking of you would like to eat here as it is very popular.
The museum is very interesting for those who would like to learn more about the revolution.

If you didn't visit One World Observatory earlier in the day, consider a sunset or evening visit here.
It’s 1.4km to walk back to One World Observatory. If you prefer, you can take the 1 or 4 train uptown.

Hi! Welcome to my Thatch guides!
I am a solo traveller based on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. I have been traveling solo for about 25 years (not bad for someone in their early 40s). I love exploring new places and spending on experiences, not things.
Before I found Thatch, I would create Google Maps for each location I was visiting. While this served me well, it has nothing on Thatch. I love being able to set up itineraries for myself and others to simplify the travel experience.
What will you find in my Thatch guides?
* Easy-to-follow itineraries that will help you explore new places
* Recommendations for activities and experiences
* Some restaurant recommendations
* Accommodation options at varying budget levels
* Links to my travel Instagram for reels and more information
Services I offer:
