A Mini-Guide To Outremont: My Favourite Montreal Neighbourhood

A Mini-Guide To Outremont: My Favourite Montreal Neighbourhood

Twenty Five Days a Year
After living in Outremont periodically, it quickly became my favourite spot in Montreal - I barely felt the need to explore beyond my own area as there was SO much within a few kilometres of my old apartment. Here is a mini-guide to this area and my favourite things in walking distance!

About This Guide

This is NOT a first-timers guide to Montreal, but for those who are staying in the area for an extended period of time and want to explore a little outside of the downtown / old Montreal areas (which are DEFINITELY musts on your first time to Montreal!).

Outremont
@twentyfivedaysayear
A neighbourhood in Montreal within walking distance to some of the best restaurants, cafes, and locations in the city.

Outremont is mostly a residential neighbourhood, which I have found to be full of quiet tree-lined residential streets, tons of hip shops and cafes, so many delicious restaurants with many different cuisines, and steps away from so many great things in Montreal.

NOTE: not everything in this guide is directly in the Outremont neighbourhood, but within walking distance (which is one of the best things about this neighbourhood - being so close to everything!). This guide is mostly focus on food, as that was my favourite part of the area, but check out some things to do in the neighbourhood, and mostly close by. Some of these places are in Little Italy, Mile End, Mile-Ex, and close by areas.

Where To Eat

Breakfast / Brunch

Bloomfield
@twentyfivedaysayear
Breakfast, lunch, brunch, coffee... whatever you fancy this place has an option for you! The breakfast options here taste so flavourful and fresh. This is a popular spot on weekends so come early if you want a spot.

Leméac
@twentyfivedaysayear
A great spot for all meals, but a champagne brunch is always a good idea here.

St-Viateur Bagel
@twentyfivedaysayear
Delicious and fresh bagels at this spot! Note that this is only bagels (and they sell sides) and not breakfast sandwiches or other options... you will have to make your own bagel creations at home.

Dinner

Provisions Bar à Vin
@twentyfivedaysayear
One of my all time favourite restaurants, and my favourite restaurant in Montreal. The ambiance here is great - it's a small-ish restaurant with a terrace for the summer months. They have tons of cuts of meat you can decide to order, or lots of dishes to choose from (or combine both like we did!). The service was also SO good here.

Damas
@twentyfivedaysayear
This restaurant is Syrian cuisine and it does NOT disappoint. They have so many amazing dishes on offer here - tasting menus, wine pairing, hot and cold appetizers, main dishes. It's truly SO good, but it is a little pricey and you will need to reserve in advance.

Boxermans
@twentyfivedaysayear
A cute window-front restaurant that just invites you in. We had window seating and the ambiance was so cozy and comfortable - it made for a great experience. They also have outdoor seating when the temperature is right! They have a regularly changing menu of inspired and creative dishes of beef, seafood, & vegetarian plates.

Restaurant Mikado
@twentyfivedaysayear
This is an upscale sushi restaurant (with more to offer than just sushi!). Firstly, the atmosphere here is extremely enticing - dimmed lights, modern decor, and great service are super welcoming. They serve a wide range of Japanese dishes that are super fresh and guaranteed to hit the spot!

Anemone
@twentyfivedaysayear
A menu inspired by local products, this spot is definitely creative and bound to keep you on your toes. On a tucked away street, this is a less-obvious spot, with cozy indoor seating and a cute patio in the back. Small portions, highly rated, and a great drink menu - what else do you want!

LeDon Donburi
@twentyfivedaysayear
Inspired by Japanese cuisine, this place offers delicious and flavourful rice bowls with a variety of toppings and tastes plus a delicious menu for starters. This is a cozy restaurant (no need for fancy clothes here) with only a few tables, but available for takeout. We really enjoyed our meal here!

Taverne Atlantic
@twentyfivedaysayear
If you are looking for one of these: (1) pub style food (pizza, hotdogs, poutine), (2) amazing cocktails / drinks, or (3) unmatched vibes with a rooftop patio and the cutest interior, this is your spot! This is an amazing bar to bring your friends to for a drink. It's super popular, so come early for seating or be prepared to wait a little.

Some of the best donuts I have ever had. They have tons of creative flavours but my favourite is definitely the classic glazed! These donuts are famous in Montreal.

What To Do

This guide is more about my favourite spots to eat in the area, but ofcourse there's a few things to do that are in / just outside of Outremont and not too far of a walk away. Mainly, just walking around the neighbourhood is the best way to see the area - and eating your way through it ofcourse.

Mount Royal
@twentyfivedaysayear
My favourite thing to do is take a walk/jog/hike up to the Mont Royal look out. It's only a few kms away and is such an iconic landmark and a great way to get outside.

Montreal Alouettes: With the same thought process that brought us to Mont Royal, the Montreal Alouettes play at the stadium right beside here, and is a great experience if you happen to be here whilst a game is playing!

Jean Talon Market
@twentyfivedaysayear
Great place year-round for really anything you need! You can stop by here and grab some food on your way through visiting the stalls. It's an extremely popular spot, so expect it to be busy!

Parc Outremont
@twentyfivedaysayear
One of MANY parks throughout Montreal - there is so much greenery in this city which is so refreshing. Walking through Montreal is the best way to get a feel for it - so make sure to do this and visit many parks along your route!

Outremont Theatre
@twentyfivedaysayear
This theatre has both performances, events, and a cinema for watching movies of all sorts.
