V18E3: Missinaibi to Lake Superior in Ontario
Christopher Shontz
This week, on venture4wd, I travel west through Ontario, toward the Great Lakes. First, I stop in Missinaibi Provincial Park, where I experience a lovely Canadian backcountry. Then, I continue to Agawa Bay on Lake Superior. This board contains the places I discovered along the way!

Missinaibi Provincial Park
@venture4wd
A lovely Provincial Park about 75km from pavement, north of Chapleau, Ontario. This is a wonderful spot, off-the-beaten path, for camping, fishing, and boating. Featuring a maintained campground with restrooms, and a boat ramp. Or, you can take your boat out onto the lake and camp at one of many designated backcountry campsites. This is an ideal spot for a vacation experience in Ontario's backcountry.

Lake Superior Provincial Park
@venture4wd
First of all, Lake Superior is beautiful, with rocky shores, and crystal clear water. This sprawling Provincial Park offers great opportunities for camping, hiking, and backpacking along the eastern shore of the lake. I stayed at Agawa Lake campground for a couple of nights, which offers just a small taste of what the greater park has to offer. It's mostly coniferous without rugged, mountainous terrain, tons of hiking trails, and a lot of inland lakes, streams, and waterfalls. You're going to want your camera and hiking shoes for this one!

Agawa Bay Campground
@venture4wd
Agawa Bay Campground is the only coastal campground in Lake Superior Provincial Park, in Ontario. It's a very large campground, with around 200 campsites, up and down a wooded section of Lake Superior's eastern coast. There is water, restrooms, showers, fire rings, and some electrical hook-ups for RVs. The campground spans about a mile-and-a-half of beach, which is ideal for lounging, sunbathing, swimming, and watching the sunset. There was passable cell service at the campground too. The visitor's center had a store, information kiosk, museum, and theater. It was all very tasteful and well cared for! It's a great place to experience with your partner or family!

Bird's Eye Outfitters
@venture4wd
This is a hybrid coffee shop with pretty good coffee. Most notably, it’s relaxing, comfortable, and also serves quality sandwiches and fare off the grill, a large selection of craft beer, smoothies, outdoor gear, and on top of all this, is an excellent place to open the laptop and do some work. Few places realize the hybrid gastro-cafe as well as Bird’s Eye!
I’ve been here twice. Once in 2019 and again in 2022. I had a delicious mocha and a gourmet grilled cheese during my last visit.
