Lake Como, also known as Lago di Como in Italian, is the third-largest lake in Italy, covering an area of approximately 146 square kilometres and is located in the Lombardy region of northern Italy

It is shaped like an inverted "Y" and is surrounded by the majestic Alps, offering breathtaking views from every angle.

The lake is dotted with charming little towns and villages along its shores, each with its own unique character and attractions.

The area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, offering hiking, boating, and watersports opportunities.

The lake is home to several magnificent villas and gardens, many dating back centuries. Villa del Balbianello, Villa Carlotta, and Villa Monastero are just a few of the splendid estates that grace the shores of Lake Como, showcasing beautiful architecture, art collections, and meticulously landscaped gardens.

😍Our Experience

Our day began with a wholesome breakfast of flaky croissants and coffee at Milan Central Station, fueling up for the adventures ahead. With anticipation in the air, we boarded the early morning train bound for Lake Varenna, the gateway to Lake Como.

The scenic train ride set the perfect tone for the day, offering glimpses of lush countryside, quaint villages and distant mountains.

Arriving at Lake Varenna, we eagerly set out to explore the surroundings. Wandering along the lake trails, cobbled streets lined with pastel-coloured houses and blooming flowers we were greeted by breathtaking views of the shimmering waters and majestic mountains that framed the horizon.

                                  Greenway of the Patriarchs

Our adventure continued as we hopped on a boat from Lake Varenna to Lake Bellagio, cruising across the pristine waters.

Arriving at Lake Bellagio, we had some fresh gelato and a wholesome packed lunch.

We then set out to explore the towns of Bellagio and beyond on foot.

As the day began to wane, we boarded another boat from Lake Bellagio on a final ferry ride to Como, the largest town on Lake Como's shores.

Arriving at the town of Como, we strolled through its vibrant streets, indulging in some souvenir shopping and soaking up the lively ambience of this lakeside gem.

With hearts full of memories, we then bid farewell to Lake Como and boarded the train back to Milan from Como train station.

Our day trip to Lake Como was nothing short of a magical experience. 💖

❄️Best Time to Visit Lake Como:

Ultimately, the best time to visit Lake Como depends on your personal preferences for weather, crowds, and activities.

Spring (April to June): This is a wonderful time to visit Lake Como when the weather is mild, and the landscape is lush and blooming with flowers. The crowds are relatively smaller compared to the peak summer months, making it an ideal time for leisurely exploration and outdoor activities like hiking and biking.

Summer (July to August): Summer is the peak tourist season at Lake Como. The weather is warm and sunny, perfect for boat rides, swimming, and exploring the charming lakeside towns. However, be prepared for larger crowds and higher prices during this time.

Fall (September to October): Fall brings cooler temperatures and fewer tourists compared to summer, making it an excellent time to visit if you prefer a quieter atmosphere. The fall foliage adds a beautiful touch to the already stunning landscape, and you can still enjoy outdoor activities before the winter chill sets in.

Winter (November to March): While the weather may be colder and some attractions may have reduced hours or be closed, visiting Lake Como in winter has its charm. The towns take on a more tranquil atmosphere, and you can experience a different side of the lake, perhaps even enjoy winter sports in the surrounding Alps.
