Austin BBQ
The most famous of them all. You've got to literally get here by 6am to tailgate/wait in line. Way around it if you have a large group: you can order pick up in advance (schedule days/weeks out).
Opies: hill country gem. Make sure to try it all and you absolutely need to get the tater tot casserole.
East side - stone's throw from Franklin's. Killer BBQ, low key spot.
Cooper's OG location is in Llano - an hour outside of Austin and a great pit visit. With this location being right in the heart of downtown, people think it is "touristy" and are quick to dismiss when they don't know the background/origin. This place is incredible.
Terry Black's has quickly transformed into a hot spot for Austin BBQ. You may be subject to lengthy lines. Pro tip: come early and then go hit Butler Pitch and Putt across the street (or switch that order, but have fun in line).
S Lamar neighborhood location - located right outside Corner Bar (good dive bar, great for watching Football on Sunday) and right down the street from Bouldin Acres (below).
GET THE BRISKET CRUNCHWRAP. TRUST ME.
Worth the trip north of downtown on N lamar.
If you're making your way towards Dripping Springs - pop in here and you won't be disappointed
Their BBQ tacos are next level. Can find them here ^ or at Austin FC's stadium!
East side hitter. Close to a lot of bars/BnBs, etc.
Get here EARLY. Fortunately - there are several incredible food trucks also in Cosmic's beer/coffee garden that I would highly recommend. Perfect for any sunny day.
This is your "business dinner" BBQ.
This one is an hour away but one of Texas' best.
I call this the Disneyland of BBQ. It is an EVENT. BYOB (literally can bring a cooler), be prepared to wait but it is worth it.
