🇵🇪 World Wonder | Visiting Machu Picchu ⛰️
Our dream of seeing Machu Picchu
This is a guide dedicated only to the trip to Machu Picchu, if you want to see the full itinerary, go here:
Machu Picchu is an enchanting place and one of the most popular destinations in the world. Because of this, when we searched we found many options for paid tours.
How to access it?
We were living in Cusco for 15 days and in that time we decided to check off our first task on the list, which was to visit Machu Picchu.
Even before staying in Aguas Calientes, which is the nearest town before reaching the Inca sanctuary, we visited other towns in Peru. That's why this guide starts on the 13th!
To get there, we took a train from Ollantaytambo on the Peru Train. And on this trip we had the privilege of seeing some beautiful landscapes.
Accommodation
We slept in a very comfortable hotel, after all the big day wasn't until the next day, so we ended up staying at the Hotel Ferré Boulevard Machu Picchu. We found it very comfortable with a wide range of breakfasts. Although it was only for one night, it suited us very well.
Other hotels that came highly recommended were:
Tickets
In this link, you can buy tickets to visit Machu Picchu. Remember that you have the option of hiking, which is a separate adventure due to the immense altitude, but if you have the breath, it's an option.
Day 14 - Here we are!
Our bus (already included in the ticket) dropped us off at the entrance where we needed to show the printed tickets. We took the unlimited route and had a guide who told us all about the history of this incredible place!
Person guide
It is recommended that you go with a guide, and there are several available at the entrance offering their services. With their help we were able to enjoy the space even more.
Historic Sanctuary
Look this view!
It took us around 4 hours to see the whole of Machu Picchu. At all times, our guide provided information and curiosities about the site. Such as: the shape and cut of each stone in the city, these "giant stairs" which were actually where the Inca people grew their food and how this came to be discovered over time.
Back to Aguas Calientes, where to eat?
Delicious Peruvian food!
Review
It is possible to make this trip in just one day, but I recommend setting aside at least two days to get to know Aguas Calientes, its restaurants, stroll around the stores and, of course, have a free day dedicated to Machu Picchu!
It was incredible, together with the other cities, our itinerary in Peru couldn't have been better.
