Budget-Friendly Iceland Itinerary
Day 1
Day 2
$7 entry at Kerid Crater and no hiking needed! Just some stairs if you want to get to the bottom
Selfoss is a great place to stop for gas, coffee, shopping, etc.
This hike took us just over an hour with some icy parts. I recommend changing into your swimsuit beforehand and there are outdoor changing areas that are open-air once you're done. As long as you're in long enough, it's not that cold getting out!
Day 3
On the way to Vik, make stops at gorgeous waterfalls and say hi to ponies on the road!
We came here for sunset, but also returned the next day to see the cave below and admire the beach more since it gets very cold and windy around sunset.
This is a gorgeous and more affordable place to stay near Vik. We were able to see the northern lights clearly from here and there are ponies and a cute pug on the property!
Day 4
For $200, you can explore the ice caves that are slowly going away due to climate change. You'll be amongst the glaciers and get to see caves that change all the time!
After exploring the caves, head over to this spot for lunch for delicious pizza
We went back here to take pics during the day!
Day 5
On the way back towards Reykjavik, stop at this park where you can even go snorkeling! But make sure you have enough time between your reservations.
This parking lot is the center of the park and has a restroom to use.
After lots of exploring, relax at the Blue Lagoon. Our tickets were $105 including a drink of choice at the swim up bar.
Day 6
Although we didn't get to go here, you can visit here as a day trip, or do what we did, which is explore Reykjavik as seen below.
For $95, you can spend the evening at Sky Lagoon. Sunsets are gorgeous here and there's a 7 step spa ritual you can follow that includes saunas, cold mist, scrub, etc.
