Things to do:

ATO Hallstatt Market Boat Station
@shellylives
This is the first stop of your visit to Hallstatt and arguably the most important one. The only reason I’m including it in this map list is to remind you: when you get off the ferry, before starting to explore this gorgeous destination, check the ferry timetable so you’ll know when to return in time for your train’s departure. P.S. The timetable image I have is no longer up to date!

Salzbergbahn
@shellylives
This is one steep funicular—wow! It takes you to an incredible altitude. However, I personally recommend the funicular and skywalk only if paired with the salt mines tour. Yes, the views from the skywalk are amazing, but in my opinion, it’s just not worth €23 per person on its own. The full experience, including the salt mines tour, costs €40 per person and takes about 3 hours from the moment you board the funicular (long boarding line). I recommend doing this activity right when you arrive in Hallstatt.

Maria Theresia studs
@shellylives
Unfortunately, we were late getting to the ticket shop for the salt mines, so we didn’t have time for the whole salt mines’ tour. These are the first salt mines in Europe, and the tours seem fun and fascinating! I’m 100% visiting on my next trip to Hallstatt! The full experience (salt mines, funicular and skywalk) costs €40 per person and takes about 3 hours from the moment you board the funicular (long boarding line). I recommend doing this activity right when you arrive in Hallstatt.

Panoramic Viewpoint - Hallstatt Skywalk
@shellylives
The skywalk is a big platform the hovers well above the village offering views of the Alps and the Halstatter See. To get to the skywalk, you can either hike up the mountain, or take the funicular ride. I personally recommend the funicular and skywalk only if paired with the salt mines tour.

Marktplatz Hallstatt
@shellylives
Marktplatz is the main square of the village, where you’ll find most of the hotels, cafés, restaurants, and gift shops.

Pfarrkirche Mariä Himmelfahrt (Maria am Berg)
@shellylives
A charming little church with Hallstatt's cemetery right outside. It might feel odd to say, but the cemetery is quite beautiful, with graves adorned with flowers and decorations.

Hallstätter Wasserfall
@shellylives
This is another spot we unfortunately missed. We went in the wrong direction trying to get there, which cost us some time, so we ended up skipping it. However, while attempting to reach the waterfall, we discovered some beautiful viewpoints of the village!

Food and coffee:

Restaurant am See
@shellylives
This was our first stop on the trip, and it was for a coffee. The restaurant was fully reserved, but since we only wanted coffee, they kindly gave us a table. The service was good, and the coffee was as well. The best part, though? The view. You can enjoy your coffee while looking out at the lake and the Alps! As for the food, reviews are mixed, so it’s up to you whether you want to eat there or not. However, I’d recommend making a reservation beforehand if you decide to dine.

Schirmbar Hallstatt (Umbrella Bar Hallstatt)
@shellylives
We had lunch at this small restaurant. It’s okay, but you can probably find better places to eat. It’s affordable, with a limited menu, but luckily the dishes are shown in pictures, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Decided to stay?

Seehotel Grüner Baum
@shellylives
It’s always good to have a recommended hotel in mind—Hallstatt is so beautiful, it might just make you want to stay! This four-star hotel is on the pricier side, but it’s located right in Marktplatz, overlooking the Hallstätter See, and includes breakfast in the price.

Guides:

Vienna, a city renowned for its stunning Baroque architecture, rich imperial history, and as the home of Mozart, Strauss, Beethoven, and many other great composers, is often called the "City of Music." Having visited Vienna twice, once in summer and once in autumn, and experiencing two distinct travel styles, I believe I can provide useful information for travelers. During my summer trip, I focused on the "sightseeing and museums" type of travel. In contrast, my autumn trip was more relaxed, with day trips to Salzburg and Hallstatt, while ensuring that the person accompanying me got to experience some must-sees based on their personal preferences. She is a nature lover and not particularly interested in historical museums. The guide includes some do's and don'ts, along with a list of must-visit places. In addition, this guide provides practical tips on transportation, ticketing, and the best times to visit major attractions. I'll also include some of my favorite spots to eat, from cozy cafés to traditional Viennese restaurants, budget friendly tips and days needed to explore this beautiful city! I discuss what you can expect to see and experience at each site, based on my own personal experience, while striving to remain objective. This way, you, as the reader, can choose the places that best suit your preferences and add them to your itinerary. I won’t just write about the history of each place—after all, that's likely the reason you're visiting in the first place, right? Feel free to share your own experiences or ask any questions. I'd love to help make your trip to Vienna as memorable as mine! This guide will continue to be updated every time I visit Vienna and gain new experiences to share with you! Enjoy!
