4 day Itinerary; New Orleans, Mississippi/Alabama Coast
Spending some time on the gulf? Check out this itinerary. We packed our quick trip across 3 states, military history, bird watching, food, and southern hospitality. Even had time for some alligator tours and art gallery hopping with our hurricanes. Car required- we drove along the coast of Alabama and Mississippi before arriving back in New Orleans.

This was my personal first trip to New Orleans and my first time to the State of Louisiana (checking off state #44!) We tried to do a mix of standard tourist stops with a bit of local favorites as well. If you're not into super touristy things, then this guide is for you.

The name derives from "Poor Boy", it was created by a local baker, John Gendusa as an inexpensive way to create a hearty meal during the 1929 streetcar strike.
The French bread gets loaded with lettuce, tomato, and pickles, and typically filled with roast beef, fried shrimp, or whatever protein you choose, it gets slathered in sauce or mayo.
It makes for a cheap and easy meal to fuel a day walking around New Orleans, or as a way to sober up during those late NOLA nights.
