Essential Guide to Porto: A mix of must-see spots and less-traveled local favorites
Porto is my favorite city in Portugal (and quite possibly my favorite city in Europe). I've spent over 3 months here in the last two years, which has given me the unique opportunity to fully experience all Porto has to offer. But I also know what it's like to only have two or three days to try to see & do it all, and why I have created this guide for you. I've highlighted all the best spots, and added in some local favorites, to help you maximize your time in this incredibly vibrant city!
Rather than have a rigid, scheduled checklist of places, I've tried to group locations together that would make sense if walking around the city. If you start the day where I've suggested, you'll have many options along the way from start to finish. Use the map icon to toggle between the guide and the map, or use the directions tab in each location description to link you to directly to Google maps.
This guide includes:
đčSuggested sites and activities for 3 days in Porto, thoughtfully & geographically grouped together to help maximize your time in the city.
đčA mix of the "typical" spots to see, as well as some less-traveled places to add something different & unique to your experience.
đčTips and insights given are from my own personal experiences from spending over 3 months in this amazing city. This is not just a generic laundry list of an itinerary!
And obviously you'll take lunch, wine (!!) and dinner breaks along the way. I didn't include restaurant options here, as I have an entire guide on just food! You will definitely want to check it out, so I'll link it below! âŹïž

Strolling through Turin is like entering a fairy tale where every street holds a secret and every square a story. Imagine yourself walking under the elegant arcades of Via Roma, feeling the soft touch of the Italian sun on your face as you watch the charming shop windows. Around the corner, the majestic Piazza Castello reveals itself, inviting you to a contemplative break. The vibrant atmosphere of the Porta Palazzo Market awakens the senses with unique colors, aromas and flavors, making every moment there a delicious discovery. And when you finally sit in a cafe on the banks of the Po River, with a cup of cappuccino in hand, you feel the soul of Turin embrace yours, becoming part of a city that not only visits but lives intensely.

425⏠for 5 days in the Maldives? How is it possible?
Welcome to this budget guide, destination Maldives.
Here we try to break down how to organise an 5 days all inclusive holiday to the Maldives for the same price of 1 single night in a resort.
Our budget for the entire trip, including flights, transport accommodation and food was: 425âŹ. 600⏠if departing from Italy.
Flight Abu Dhabi - Male (both way): 162âŹ
Taxi: 3âŹ
Housing (4 nights): 107âŹ
Boats (2, one speed one slow): 50âŹ
Food (10 meals): 95âŹ
Sunscreen: 8âŹ
Make sure to note that we departed from Abu Dhabi, which has the cheapest flight to Male (capital of the Maldives).
Departing from other cities (ex. Roma) will require a transfer, so budget an extra 175âŹ. (Total 600âŹ).
In the guide I am going to explain how to navigate around our chosen island and how to organise logistics to move between islands.

Ever contemplated a new method of travel? A way to break up all of the traffic-filled roadtrips or miserable treks to the airport, only to wait 2-3 hours for a flight? Fed up with the same old highway views (or lack of views from the plane)?
If so, this guide is for you! From the very first time I boarded an Amtrak Long Distance (LD) train in 2016 in Oakland, CA, I was immediately overcome with excitement, which quickly morphed into a passion. I have yet to go on a trip and not catch myself in a trance staring out the window on multiple occasions, failing to read/watch all of the books/shows I thought I would need or having a deep conversation with a complete stranger in the observation car. These experiences are the reason why I write this guide, to share and hopefully inform prospective travelers.
If you are not familiar with Amtrakâs LD services, fear not! I intend to offer as much information about the train options, destinations, schedules and anything else I can think of to lead your potential adventure.
This is just part one of a three-part guide and will cover the intro as well as the first five long-distance trains (numerically). Be sure to check out the other two sections (below) as well as all my other work on Amtrak and budget-oriented traveling. If for some reason, I donât cover something or you have questions, feel free to reach out!
