Cuenca is my favorite city in Ecuador by far. The city feels very European â gorgeous colonial architecture, beautiful public spaces along the river to walk along, the city is clean, traffic is orderly, and you can even drink the tap water!
This guide includes my tips on:
- Arriving in Cuenca (Transportation)
- Sightseeing & shopping
- Best restaurants (including an affordable tasting menu you absolutely CANT miss!)
- Places to stay
- Daytrips
- Weekend trips
Many North Americans retire in Cuenca for the comfortable quality of life. Itâs a great place to recharge your batteries if you need a break from bussing and adventuring.
Donât forget to pack a jacket and a beanie! Even if the daytime is beautiful with sunny blue skies, temperatures often drop down to the 50s at night.

California Gold Country holds an incredible amount of history, beautiful outdoor activities, alpine lakes, hiking, food, wine, & more. In my opinion, this section of Highway 49 is the best road trip in the West. The entire 49 is amazing, but in case you're short on time, this guide focuses on my favorite section of it.
This guide holds everything you need for a 3-5 day trip in this region. It includes information on hikes, swimming spots, small towns, wine, food, history, accommodation, camping, and more. That amount of time will leave you space to have at least one full outdoors day, one full wine & food day, and some other activities in between.
It's a great trip for someone like me who likes getting dirty & spending time outside and in the backcountry, but also likes really good food and some of the best wine California has to offer. There's something for everyone on this trip. You can walk on a dirt trail for an hour and a half, see wildflowers, swim, go wine tasting, learn about history, and more.
This trip can be done any time of year. If you visit in the winter, you may want to sub out some skiing for swimming & some of the hikes might be inaccessible without snowshoes or XC skis. If you go in the middle of summer, it will be hot at lower elevations, but still amazing. Spring will give you some incredible wildflowers.
âThis area is less frequented & should be appreciated. It's a great trip if you're looking to escape the crowds. This trip can easily be done as an add-on to Lake Tahoe or Sacramento.
Use this guide as a set itinerary, or draw from it to create your own trip!

New England is known for its thriving craft beer scene, with numerous breweries producing exceptional brews. Did you know Vermont is the state with the most breweries per capita? The state may be small, but there are breweries everywhere. As a New Englander living in Vermont, it's challenging to definitively rank the "best" as preferences can vary widely, but here are some of the most outstanding breweries in New England, listed in no particular order.
Please note that the craft beer landscape is continually evolving, and new breweries frequently emerge with exciting offerings. I recommend exploring local beer scenes and tasting rooms in New England to discover hidden gems and favorites that align with your specific beer preferences.

A SELECTION OF THE BEST DUDE RANCHES ON THE AMERICAN FRONTIER đŽđŁđïžđ€
Rustic does not necessarily mean roughing it. A selection of ranches in the American West expertly combine an authentic cowboy experience with all the trappings you'd expect at a luxury resort (and more). You can expect to spend part of your day in the saddle or wading in the river, expertly guided by ranch staff, only to return home to a full-fledged tasting dinner featuring local game and produce. You can get all of the seclusion and romance you want on a couples' trip, but you won't have to worry for a second about being bored!
Check out this guide for what to expect on a luxury dude ranch vacation, and some of the best options in the US.

To truly experience the essence of Budapest, you shouldn't miss out on visiting the city's famous ruin bars. These are quirky, fun bars and cafés located in abandoned, old or ruined buildings. They have mismatched furniture mostly from yard sales or antique shops, random decorations and a very unique atmosphere.
Ruin bars are not only places for drinks: they are institutions! Many of them organize live concert, exhibitions, farmer's markets, beer or wine tastings, flea markets, craft fairs, open-air cinema screenings and various events that are not only appealing for the tourists but also for locals. Basically, they have something to offer for everyone. They are perfect melting pots of fun, entertainment, underground culture and gastronomy.
I highly recommend you visiting them during the evening AND also during the day as they have incredibly different vibes. During the day, they are great places for grabbing a cup of coffee or a light meal, a few people are even sitting there with their laptops, doing work! During the evening, the ruin bars become more and more lively, people start to have drinks and as the night progresses, many of these bars turn into clubs where you can dance the night away.
