Egypt has an incredible amount of sites and experiences, but the excitement and joy of exploring the world’s oldest civilization and the greatest marvels created by man can sometimes be overshadowed by the burden it may have on the Environment. This guide takes you through hotels that follow a more sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to make your experience in Egypt a more relieving one. For a more guilt-free and environmentally conscious stay in Egypt, selecting hotels that prioritize sustainability can significantly enhance your travel experience. Environmentally friendly hotels in Egypt focus on minimizing their ecological footprint through practices such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, and water conservation. These accommodations often incorporate sustainable design elements, support local communities, and offer green certifications that reflect their commitment to preserving the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the region. By choosing such hotels, travelers can enjoy their stay with peace of mind, knowing they are contributing to responsible tourism and supporting efforts to protect Egypt’s unique environment. This is done through the "Green Star Hotel" Program, Egypt's Initiative for Sustainable Tourism Certification The Green Star Hotel (GSH) program is Egypt's national green certification and capacity-building initiative, overseen by the Egyptian Hotel Association (EHA) with the support of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism. This program provides hotels in Egypt with the opportunity to gain international recognition for enhancing their environmental practices and social standards while also lowering operational expenses. Participating hotels receive guidance from a team of certified national and international experts through a series of training sessions and informational support, culminating in field audits to verify adherence to program standards before awarding the GSH certification. GSHP directly supports the following goals of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth. SDG 11: Sustainable Cities & Communities. SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production. SDG 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change & its impacts. SDG 14: Life below water. South Africa is a multifaceted country filled with magical outdoor adventures that dreams are made of. In this stunning part of the world, you can feel the rush of adrenaline while coming face to face with lions, sleep under the stars in the “bush”, acquaint yourself with local cultures, & experience fabulous weather & history-rich locations along the way. In 2019, I made my first trip to South Africa. It had been a dream of mine to visit the rainbow nation since I was a child & SA didn’t dissappoint. I immediately fell in love with the country from the people to the landscapes I felt that I was suppose to be there. I remember traveling into Cape Town by car from the garden route for the first time, with the sun setting over the ocean & “Queen” on the radio I felt like this place was going to be home. This guide will take you on a journey along the coast from Cape Town to Johannesburg or (vice versa) visiting some of the finest luxury hotels & camps that have a conservation / sustainable ethos along the way. I’ve also featured some of the very best experiences this nation has to offer. From swimming with great white sharks to getting up close & personal with lions in Kruger national park. This country truly makes for unforgettable experiences. This itinerary can be from 2-4 weeks & is based on renting a car in Cape Town & dropping it off in Johannesburg (the most popular way to travel) as public transport is lacking here. There are other ways to travel from local flights to hop-on hop-off tourist buses that stop at the most famous sights if you can’t drive.
