What people say

"Away from the view of many passers-by due to the long works that took place in Terreiro do Paço, in the heart of Lisbon's historic center, the Miradouro do Cais das Colunas is one of the emblematic places of the Portuguese capital. The Pier has been dismantled since 1997, being replaced in 2008, giving the city a stunning view over the Tagus River, the typical cacilheiros and the south bank. Cais das Colunas constituted, for many centuries, the main connection between the city and the river, being known as the “city gate”, offering at the same time a place for exchange, a pier and observation of the river bustle, as well as a a place of open landscape contemplation and a privileged leisure area. The Pier was from the beginning part of the Praça do Comércio project, during the reconstruction of the city after the great Earthquake of 1755, signed by the Architect Eugénio dos Santos, having been completed at the end of the 18th century. Its two columns, which give it its name, punctuate the stone staircase that descends to the river."

"Cais das Colunas is a charming place in Lisbon, where the Tagus River meets the city. It is a perfect place to enjoy a stunning sunset and relax at the end of the day. The white columns stretch majestically over the water, creating a tranquil and serene atmosphere. Sitting on the edge of the pier, feeling the gentle breeze and enjoying the spectacle of the sun setting on the horizon is a unique experience. It's a moment to leave the stress of the day behind, take a deep breath and simply relax while the magic of the sunset envelops the landscape."
