"When we said save yourself for more beautiful hikes to come, this is one we were talking about. The Hooker Valley Track is a moderately long hike through the flat valley with incredible views of the surrounding mountains, including the most iconic Mt. Cook. It is probably the most low-effort, high-reward hike you will do in New Zealand.
However, as noted, the sun is very intense in New Zealand and there is NO cover on this hike so plan to wear sun protection and have enough water.
The track will take you across three suspension bridges and lead you to Hooker Lake where you can dip your aching feet in the freezing glacier water and take in the views of the glacier across the lake.
Hike details (per All trails):

"This breathtaking trek through the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park is a journey through nature at its most awe-inspiring.
Imagine walking amidst snow-capped peaks, crystal-clear glacial waters, and vibrant alpine meadows. The Hooker Valley Track offers a remarkable experience of New Zealand's dramatic natural beauty. As you meander along this well-maintained trail, you'll cross swing bridges, witness the Hooker River's emerald hues, and get closer to the iconic Aoraki/Mount Cook itself.
This is a place where you'll discover the serenity of the Southern Alps and, if you're lucky, spot some native wildlife. Make sure to bring your camera, as every step brings a new photo opportunity.

"This is a stunning hike of just under 11 kilometres. It's a super easy hike of under 200 metres elevation gain which will take between 2-3 hours to walk. Theres so little elevation that you could also run this route! However, it is a popular track so you'll definitely be sharing with others - try and go early or late in the day to avoid the crowds and tour groups. "
