Kid-friendly New Zealand
Bailey Selland
This is a map of all my favorite spots to explore, eat, and stay in Aotearoa New Zealand after a year and a half of living in the land of the long white cloud with my two kids. Nearly all the pins are child friendly and they are noted if not.
I update this periodically as I travel to new places so keep an eye out and enjoy New Zealand's incredible country!

Huka Falls

Short paved stroll to a light blue waterfall (looks more like a rapid to me)

Duke's Nose
@spiritandguts
One of my absolute favorite views in all of New Zealand. It's a hefty hike with kids (about 3.5 miles/7km and 1700ft/550m one way to the top. Best done on an overnight to Lane Cove Hut or you can schedule a ferry out.

Lane Cove Hut
@spiritandguts
A gorgeous 16 bunk hut right on the cove. Eat at the picnic table on the deck and watch the tide come in and out. Make sure to drop your packs and take the 30min (one way) walk to Duke's Nose. Must be booked in advance on the DOC website.

Totara North, Freedom Camping Site
@spiritandguts
Easy spot to stay (for self contained vehicles) before Lane Cove Hut and Duke's Nose. It can get very muddy after rain so use caution and don't get stuck! It's a simple grass field with no facilities.

Rainbow Falls (Waianiwaniwa)
@spiritandguts
2 minute stroll from the carpark to view from the top or an extra two minutes down to the viewpoint at the bottom. Carpark has a toilet.

Waipu Caves
@spiritandguts
Only a 1 minute stroll from the carpark you can explore these caves all on your own. We were able to see some glow worms just inside the entrance. If you cross the small stream (that was present when I was there) and continue on into the dark, the glow worms will be even better!
