La Venencia

"Ah, la Venencia. If you’ve been doing your research, you’ve probably heard about this place. Opened sometime in the 1920s, these guys specialise in sherry and a few cold tapas, and that’s it. No beer on tap, not gin and tonic. Just 6 types of sherry. And all of it dry as a bone. It’s also probably the most beautiful old-world bar in the city – you can feel the dust of the ages settling around you. So if you’re curious about sherry, or just want to stand in somewhere that feels like it’s out of a 1920s movie set, then swing by. I won’t get into a sherry spiel here but they serve fino, manzanilla, amontillado, oloroso and palo cortado. It’s not the best sherry in the world, but it’s served from big barrels and it’s just wonderful to stand in this place and sip it."

"This rustic 100 year old taberna in the center of Madrid is worth a visit. Young and old crowd the small long bar and tables to the side. They serve 5 different types of sherry and tapas. The lomo is amazing as it the chesse selection. There are no photos allowed and they keep track of your order by by writing it in chalk on the bar in front of you.
