Tunnel Mountain

"Tunnel Mountain is a one hour and 15 minute drive from Cochrane and is located right on the edge of the town of Banff. This hike is approximately 4.3 km with 262 m of elevation gain that takes you to the top of the mountain. This is a relatively small mountain and the hike is considered moderate but you’ll be treated to beautiful views of the town of Banff and the other mountains all around you. If you typically hike flatter trails at lower elevation you should be prepared that this hike might be slightly more challenging than anticipated, especially with the cold winter air. You should also note that it gets much colder as you make your way up the mountain so bring additional layers to bundle up as you go. This hike can also be VERY slippery. I highly recommend bringing ice cleats. If you don’t have your own, you can rent them for about $10 at Ultimate Sports in Banff. You have to drive through Banff to get to the trailhead anyways so it's only a small detour. I found that some of the views along the way were better than those at the very top. Between this and the fact that it’s much colder at the top of the mountain, I recommend picking your favorite look out spot to eat your lunch on your way back down."
