The Hoodoos Viewpoint and Trail is a lovely pullover area and walking path that provides panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. A "hoodoo" is a distinct rock formation in North America. From Surprise Corner, take in the breathtaking views of Banff. Then, hike the hoodoo trail to get a closer view of these rocky spires. The trail starts from the Surprise Corner parking lot.

Surprise Corner Viewpoint
@rachaelp
Located just down the hill from the Banff Centre on Buffalo Street, Surprise Corner overlooks Bow Falls and Banff's Castle - the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. Try walking to Surprise Corner from the Pedestrian Bridge along the Bow River (stick to the North-East side of the River). This is also the start of the Hoodoos Trail, a beautiful hike through the forest and above the river to Banff's hoodoos.

Sulphur Mountain
@rachaelp
Take Roam Transit Route #1 up Mountain Ave to the base of Sulphur Mountain to start your journey to a sky-high view of the Banff townsite. Hike your way to the top of Sulphur Mountain - it's about 700 meters of elevation gain and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours - or ride the Banff Gondola to the top. Once you're at the top explore the boardwalk and enjoy a snack from one of the mountain top restaurants like Sky Bistro.

The three lakes on the west side of the Banff townsite are easily accessible by foot, bike, or canoe - if the season is right. The three lakes are a popular destination for watching the sunrise over Mount Rundle or sunset after biking the Bow Valley Parkway. To find the lakes, head down Mt. Norquay Road - past the Banff Sign - and turn up Vermilion Lakes Road.
